The Tribeca Film Festival was founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff, reportedly in response to the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the consequent loss of vitality in the Tribeca neighborhood in Lower Manhattan.
The mission of the festival is “to enable the international film community and the general public to experience the power of film by redefining the film festival experience.” The Tribeca Film Festival was founded to celebrate New York City as a major filmmaking center and to contribute to the long-term recovery of lower Manhattan.
Tribeca Film Festival is one of the most important windows on international indipendent movie production, it gives a wide open minded view on what’s hot in the world of cinema and storytelling with a 10 days of amazing programming and side events.
The festival is now investing a lot in new forms of storytelling such as Virtual Reality and immersive interactive shows and amazing shows including Juliette Lewis and the licks.
